DR. LEONA ALLEN

I Became the Doctor I Was Looking For

At 36, I was caring for patients while my own health was out of order.

I was exhausted, prediabetic, living with fatty liver disease, and nearly 80 pounds overweight. The hardest part was knowing so much about health and still not knowing how to help myself.

Learning to understand those warning signs changed everything. My health. My practice. And the way I care for patients today.

It is why I am so passionate about helping you connect the dots in your own health story, so you can feel hopeful and in control of your body again.

I Was a Doctor Failing My Own Body

My Personal Journey

I wish I could say my education protected me from becoming the patient. It did not.

For years, I thought I was doing “everything right.” I had been vegetarian since my twenties. I counted calories. I tried appetite suppressants and every diet trend that came through. Vegetarian. Then paleo. Then keto. I was always chasing the next thing that would finally work.

And I was living with symptoms I told myself were normal. Chronic headaches. Bad menstrual cramps. Breakouts. Fatigue that would not lift. I made peace with them, year after year. That is just how life is at my age, I told myself. That is what everyone deals with.

Then I had my first child at 36. I thought the weight would come off quickly. It did not. I ended up nearly 80 pounds overweight, and my labs told me why. Prediabetes. Fatty liver disease. Gallbladder trouble bad enough that I could have lost the organ.

I had spent years learning about the body. I had degrees on the wall. And I could not fix my own.

My first response was to try harder. I pushed through the exhaustion. I focused on losing the weight. I dealt with whichever problem was demanding my attention that week. When my efforts did not create lasting change, I told myself I needed more discipline, more willpower, or a better plan.

But the problem was not that I was not trying hard enough. I was looking at my body one problem at a time.

The turning point came when I stopped asking how to make each symptom go away and started asking how everything was connected. My blood sugar, my liver, my weight, my headaches, my energy, my sleep, my stress, my food, and my daily habits were not separate stories. They were different parts of the same story.

The transformation did not happen overnight. I had to question what I thought I knew, become a student of my own body, make changes, learn from what did not work, and stay with the process long enough to understand what my body actually needed.

Over time, I reversed prediabetes and fatty liver disease, lost nearly 80 pounds, and rebuilt a level of health I have now maintained for more than a decade.

My health crisis began before I lost my parents, but what happened to them made this work even more personal. My father lost his sight and a leg to diabetes before he died. My mother died from breast cancer. Their experiences deepened my determination to help people recognize the warning signs and take them seriously before their health reaches a crisis point. I could not save them. But I promised myself I would help every sister, brother, aunt, uncle, mother, and father I could reach.

That grief has never left. But it did give me a mission.

Today, when someone tells me they are doing everything they know to do but still do not feel like themselves, I do not assume they lack discipline. I know what it feels like to be capable, informed, and committed, and still need better answers.

That is why I am committed to listening deeply, meeting you where you are, and helping you move forward with clarity.

That is why I listen differently.

I was helping other people with their health, but I still did not know how to help myself.

Why I Think Like a Body Engineer

I did not leave engineering behind when I became a Doctor of Chiropractic. I brought that way of thinking with me.

My degree in mechanical engineering taught me that when one part of a system shows signs of trouble, you cannot always understand the problem by looking at that part alone. You have to study how the parts interact, where pressure is building, and what changed before the warning sign appeared.

I approach the body the same way. Your organs and systems work together as a whole. What affects one area can influence many others, and the place where your body is speaking the loudest may not be where the problem began.

That is what being a Body Engineer means to me. I listen to the whole story, look for the connections, and help you understand what deserves attention first.

The goal is not to make your health more complicated. It is to make what’s happening and what to do next much clearer, so you no longer feel lost or alone in your journey.

SYSTEMS OVER SYMPTOMS

I Take Your Symptoms Seriously. And I Refuse to Stop There.

Systems Over Symptoms does not mean your symptoms are unimportant. I know how exhausting, frustrating, and sometimes frightening it can be when your body no longer feels like your own. What you are feeling matters. Relief matters.

But symptoms are often the body’s way of calling for attention. If we focus only on making them disappear, we may miss what they are trying to tell us.

That is why I ask better questions, use labs when they can help us understand the picture, and consider the different factors influencing how your body functions. I will not tell you that one supplement, one diet, or one protocol is the answer for everyone.

You deserve care that listens before it decides. You deserve to understand your body. And you deserve a clear next step based on the whole person, not one complaint, one organ, or one lab result at a time.

FROM FRUSTRATION TO FREEDOM

Where the Work Comes Together

Freedom Health Systems grew from everything I learned along the way.

The name reflects what I wanted for myself and what I now want for the people I serve. Real freedom. The kind that comes from understanding your body, making informed decisions, and finally breaking free from the endless cycle of guessing and temporary fixes.

Through Freedom Health Systems, I provide chiropractic care in Stockbridge and whole-body health services both locally and virtually. Whether you are seeking pain relief, renewed energy, or a deeper understanding of your health, my philosophy stays the same.

If You See Yourself in My Story, Start Here.

You may not have the same diagnoses I had. But if you know your body has been giving you warning signs, and you are tired of guessing about what they mean, the free training is a good place to begin.

You will learn why seemingly separate concerns may be connected, what your body may be trying to tell you, and how to think differently about your next step.
